Frankfurt, April 2016 – The third international Call for Entry of FRANKfurtstyleaward resulting in 270 submissions counts as a global success: For the first time in the history of the International Talent Contest for Fashion & Design 36 newcomer from China entered the Contest of the FRANKfurtstyleaward. From this competitive field the interdisciplinary jury selected eight candidates for the Finale of the FRANKfurtstyleaward. Together with 52 other nominees these TOP60 will compete for the renowned Frank award trophy at the FRANKfurtstyleaward GALA in the Alte Oper Frankfurt, on September 23rd.
In respect to economic, cultural and fashionable performance China is the third Partner Country and follows France and Italy. Just as our mediapartner FLAIR Magazine published: The new word C. Thanks to the engagement of the Verein der Überseechinesen in Deutschland (VÜCD) FRANKfurtstyleaward was able to build sustainable network-contacts with China which lead to a valuable cultural cooperation and the invitation of China as Partner Country for 2016. Thanks to VÜCD’s chairwomen, Aping Li-Herold, FRANKfurtstyleaward managed to reach-out to Chinese fashion schools and their young talents for the first time. Thus the award is entering another international market which offers great fashion potential. The presentation of the FRANKfurtstyleaward Runway Tour at the fashion fair Intertextile and Chic in Shanghai are further highlights of this international cooperation. These fair presentations once again prove how sustainable the partner country concept and the resulting promising international network within the textile industry truly are.
This year’s contest motto is „World of Contradictions“. It challenges the young designers to think about contradictions and interpret them in a new way. With 19 entries, the largest number of Chinese contestants applied in the category “Occident vs. Orient”. In the category „Bronx vs. Boulevard“ seven Chinese entries were submitted and ten more in the category “Kim K. vs. Frida K.”. Due to the many and high-quality submissions, the eight Chinese finalists pose as strong competition to the other international participants. Only Ireland with nine and Germany with 23 have more participants in the Finale.
